isdta state dance competition, des Moines
The Davenport Central Blue Illusion Dance Team competed at the Iowa State Dance Team Association (ISDTA) State competition on December 6, 2013, in Des Moines, IA. The team did something no other Dance team at Central has ever done, bringing home 3 Division One Ratings and a Distinguished Academic award for a cumulative GPA of 3.5-4.0. The team boasted the highest scores in school history. The Iowa State competition is the biggest state competition in the Nation with close to 300 teams competing, and thousands of dances. The girls were one of 154 pom routines (divided in 14 divisions), one of 91 Hip Hop Routines (Divided in 8 Divisions) and one of 75 Jazz Routines (Divided in 7 Divisions). The girls scored higher and placed higher then any other Blue Illusion Team. The competition was tough. The judges said the hip hop division was "off the charts amazing," the "best they'd seen in any competition ever." The difference between 1st and last in the division was less than 8 points. Unheard of.
For the first time ever we took an All-Male routine to State. The boys also faced some tough competition. They were one of 14 All-Male teams, divided into 4 Divisions. The boys brought home a Division One Rating and a 2nd place Trophy. They have now set the bar for all the All-Male teams to come. |

St. Ambrose Dress Rehearsal
It's not a competition, but each year the team heads to St. Ambrose University, where area schools hold a State Dress Rehearsal. It's a great chance to get those last minute kinks out the Sunday before the State Competition. We performed our Pom, Hip Hop, Jazz and All-Male Dances at the Dress Rehearsal.
